The Asia-Europe Container Shipping Outlook: A TPM27 Webcast

Persistent port congestion in North European ports has held trans-Atlantic schedule reliability below 50% for most of the year. The delays are limiting available vessel capacity and forcing carriers to skip ports or blank sailings, with July on-time performance from North Europe to the US East Coast plunging to 28%. Strong European import volumes from Asia are keeping yards under pressure, with Rotterdam and Antwerp regularly exceeding the critical 90% threshold, delaying the loading of US-bound boxes and leading to localized equipment shortages. Demand on the trans-Atlantic is mostly flat going into the second half, and rates are more stable than on the other east-west corridors. Europe congestion has become a standard feature of the trade lane, as are blank sailings, disrupting schedules and impacting agreed-upon allocations.
